Pastor Charles’ Reflections: (Thanks to Tim Stouffer for sharing),
When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burned biscuits." Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides - a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!" Life is full of imperfect things ... and imperfect people. I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults - and choosing to celebrate each others differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship. And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn't a deal-breaker! We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or siblings or friendship! "Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket - keep it in your own." God Bless You..... Now, and Always.... So Please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burnt one will do just fine..!.!.!.!
I Love the spirit of the “Dad” being willing to accept the burnt biscuits and appreciative of his beloved wife’s efforts of preparing a meal after a long day at work. It expresses my feelings exactly. My Linda is a great cook, and yet if she was to serve burnt biscuits or beans, I would eat them and be grateful to her and to God for a good meal. There are far too many people in this old world who have little or nothing to eat tonight. The picture in the Observer today was of a little boy in Haiti being treated by a doctor who feared he had a serious illness. The lad had been eating food out of the garbage can. I hope you have found a way to help the hurting people in Haiti following their tragic fate from the earthquake. Please don’t let this day go by without contributing to one of the efforts to meet the needs of these people. I have listed several organizations to which you may donate in showing that you care and are sharing of that which God has blessed you. Give according to the way God has blessed you.
See you soon, if Jesus tarries.
In His Grip, Pastor Charles

IT TAKES A LIFETIME — It takes a lifetime to learn how to live, how to share and how to give, how to face tragedy that comes your way, how to find courage to face each new day. How to smile when your heart is sore, how to go on when you can’t take no more. How to laugh when you want to cry, how to be brave when you say goodbye. How to still love when your loss is so great. How to forgive when your urge is to hate. How to be sure that God’s really there, how to find Him, seek Him in prayer.
The government is recruiting for different census-taking positions. Two testing sessions will be held on Thursday February 11 from 10:00-noon and Wednesday, February 24 from 10:00 to Noon in the Worship Center of First Baptist Church, near the mall off of Dave Lyle Blvd. They have brochures in their office and some practice tests if someone wants one. This is a good opportunity to earn some income during our tough economic time.
Our Special thanks to Rev. Ed Self for leading our music Sunday in light of Don’s illness. It was great having Ms Eleanor back for our instrumental music.
Special thanks to all who did an outstanding job in preparing and serving the meal for the Glen Self family following his funeral on Friday. The family was gracious in their praise for you, the compassion expressed and all that you have done for them. Thanks to all who help put the chairs and tables back in their rightful place and for preparing God’s house for worship. When we work together, nothing is impossible. It is only takes a willing spirit and cooperation.
Gifts have been given to NewKirk Baptist Church in memory of Pastor Glen Self by the following:

For The Fun Of It: Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his home. As he prepared to get into
limousine, he said to the driver, “I am 87 years old and I have never driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?” The driver said, “Sure, no problem.” Dr. Graham drove down the highway and passed a State Trooper who clocked him doing 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. The Trooper pulled him over and as he walked up to the limo, the glass was rolled down. He was surprised to see who was driving. Being a rookie, he immediately excused himself and went back to his cruiser and called his supervisor. He told him, “I know we are to enforce the law, but I also know that important people are given certain courtesies...I need to know what I should do because I have stopped a very important person.” The supervisor asked if it was the governor, president and the young trooper said, ‘No, he’s even more important than that.’ The supervisor finally asked, ‘Well then, who is it?’ The young rookie trooper said, ‘I think it is Jesus, because he’s got Dr. Billy Graham for a chauffeur!’” (Thanks to Doug McSwain for sharing.)
Several months ago, my brother R. C. and I put up two “Slow Children At Play” signs to encourage you to drive carefully and slowly while on our campus. It has been called to our attention that several drivers getting ready for the race at Darlington have been seen driving onto our campus. Please drive slowly and carefully, for the life or injury of the child or adult you save, could be one of our precious children or adult. Thanks for driving carefully.
Peter describes several characteristics of good leaders in the church:
1) They care for God’s flock
2) They serve when needed.
3) They are concerned for what they can give.
Thank you so much Care Group and NewKirk. Your good deed has shined out for all to see.
May God Bless You, Mrs. Peggy
If you love Jesus, Honk! If you want to meet Him sooner, Text while driving!! In 2009 there were 6,000 killed on our highways and 28% were from cell phone use or texting. There were 5 million accidents while texting or talking on the cell phones.
The family of Rev. Glen E. Self, Sr., wish to thank you for all the food, flowers, prayers, cards and visits during his illness and death. Never have we been treated so graciously and lovingly. Thank you for allowing us the use of our wonderful facility for the funeral, visitation, and then the most delicious meal served to our family. We thank God for your love and help. NewKirk went all out for us and we will never forget your hospitality.
Sincerely, Eleanor and family
