Pastor Charles’ Reflection:

“God Said No!!” I asked God to take away my Bad habit. God said, No. It is not for Me to take away, but for you to give it up. I asked God to make my handicapped child whole. God said, No. His Spirit is whole, his body is only temporary. I asked God to grant me patience. God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; is isn’t granted, it is learned. I asked God to give me happiness. God said No. I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you. I asked God to spare me pain. God said, no. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to Me. I asked God to make my spirit grow. God said, No. You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful. I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life. God said, No. I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things. I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He LOVES me. God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea. THIS DAY IS YOURS, DON’T THROW IT AWAY. May God bless you. ‘To the world you might be an ordinary person, But to one person you just might be the world.’ May the Lord bless you and keep you, May the Lord make His face shine upon you, And give you peace...forever.’ Good friends are like stars...You don’t always see them, But you know they are always there. (Thank to Rose Marie Hodges) Thank to Eleanor who sent me this one with music. I wish you could hear the song. “Made Me Glad” by Miriam Webster I will bless the Lord forever, I will trust Him at all times, He has delivered me from all fear. He has set my feet upon a rock, And I will not be moved, And I’ll say to the Lord, You are my Shield, my Strength, my Portion, Deliverer, My Shelter, Strong Tower, my very present Help in times of trouble. Whom have I in heaven but You? There is none I desire beside You, And You have made me glad. I’ll say of the Lord, You are my Shield, my Strength, my Portion, my Deliverer. My Shield, strong Tower, my very present Help. He is a good God and loves us so much that He cannot take His eyes off of us. We ask Him “God Bless America.” A friend of mine from Wallburg, N.C. created a bumper sticker that reads, “America Bless God” Selah. See you Sunday if Jesus tarries.

In Jesus’ Grip, Pastor Charles

In an effort to ensure the safety of our children, the deacon council in conjunction with the children's committee has updated our nursery policy and created a children's church policy. Copies of the policies are available for review or you may e-mail me at ddaniels@rock-hill.kk12.sc.us for a copy. We will vote on these two policies at our next quarterly conference on July 21st. If you have any questions concerning these policies please let us know. Thank you Donna Daniels.

Youth Weekend Retreat - The youth will have a summer retreat in Maggie Valley, NC the weekend of Friday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1. The cost will be $20 per participant and is due to the Trotters by July 15th. Potential activities include going to Ghost Town or a water park, putt-putt, trout fishing, shopping in Cherokee, and go-cart racing. A youth / youth parents meeting will be held closer to the retreat date to get the details regarding departure time, what to pack, activity list and accommodation info. We will have evening Bible study and church on Sunday so your Bible is a must pack. As a prerequisite, all youth wishing to attend the retreat are expected to assist with NewKirk’s building project July 11th -17th You can work at the sports camp, go out with the evangelism team, work construction, construction cleanup, or deliver snacks and drinks to the builders. There is a task for you.

In an effort to add security for the children and those working in our nursery and Children’s Church, the back doors will be locked as the choir goes into the sanctuary. We hope you understand and will use the front entrance to enter for worship when these doors are locked.
Thank You, The Deacon Council

WORDS OF THANKS—Doug McSwain sends his heartfelt thanks for all the support—calls, cards, food, visits, and the many other ways that NewKirk was there for him and his family during the death of his mother, Patsy McSwain. Also, he has much love and appreciation for all the people that visited his mother before she passed away.

(Father’s Day has already passed, but the following words are good advice.) Fatherhood—–The father must have a full-time acceptance of all the children. He must never say, “Get these kids out of here; I’m trying to watch TV.” If he ever starts saying this, he is liable to see one of his kids on the 6 o’clock news.”
—Bill Cosby in Fatherhood

PLEASE CONTINUE DONATING—TIME IS DRAWING NEAR. From The Food Committee for our building project.
As you are aware, we are responsible for feeding the 250 volunteers coming in to build our new facility for eight days and a group of 50 who will arrive early for three days. Many of you will be asked to donate your time during July 8-17 to help us prepare these meals. If you are available, please contact Linda Tanner (817-1818), Bill Gordon or Ann Gordon (329-2657), the Food Committee for this project.
The items we would like you to donate are as follows: 8 oz. Styrofoam cups, Divided Plates, Salt, Pepper, Napkins, gallon cans of Chocolate Pudding, gallon cans of Peaches and Pears. Other items will be needed later. If you are unable to shop yourself, please feel free to donate money to the Food Fund.
Please let Linda Tanner know of any donations being brought so she can inventory them and keep you posted on our need list. If you have questions concerning donations, please call her at 817-1818.

Sunday, July 11th will kick off our week of construction, evangelism, sports camp and welcoming our volunteers. We will have around 200 volunteers, plus our Sunday normal crowd to feed. We need to cook enough for our family AND fifteen or twenty more. Please go overboard for this Sunday and lets have enough food for everyone. The Social/Kitchen Committee is coordinating this event and we thank them for their work.

“Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”
The vote to approve the purchase of the carpet and pews for the sanctuary renovation was 99% in favor of the recommendation of the New Facility Committee. We thank you and praise God for this phase in our plans for the sanctuary. We have two different sized pews. A six foot pew will cost $500.00. We need 24. A nine foot pew will cost $750.00. We need 30. The cost includes a brass plate with the donor’s name and the name of the person to be honored or memorialized. Please put a check in an envelope and mark clearly that it is for a pew, giving size and amount included. Thank you for your help.

Satisfaction of the soul
Dr. Laura Schlesinger, a popular radio host who offers advice regarding personal problems, is a strong advocate of getting one’s spiritual needs met first. The psychologist insists that trying to find happiness through acquisition of things and seeking immediate gratification of one’s wants will not satisfy one’s soul. She writes:
“If we don’t nourish our spiritual needs, no amount of material success or public recognition will fill us up. If we don’t believe our life and work serve some higher purpose, no amount of activity or acquisitions will bring us peace of mind.
“Religion, I believe, is probably the most important component of a well-lived life, because it points out the meaning of life and — by teaching the values of cooperation, sacrifice, compassion and love — provides a road to God. — Parade

Does God ever forget?
The answer is “Of course God forgets.” When we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, God forgets the sin and cleanses us of all unrighteousness. “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). It is as though God buries our sins in the deepest ocean and then as Corrie Ten Boom used to say, “God puts up a sign that says, ‘No fishing allowed.’” God forgives and forgets. Therefore we shouldn’t keep dragging out old offenses which God has already forgotten.

Trying times are not the times to stop trying. —Ray Owen

Sin causes the cup of joy to spring a leak. —Robert E. Harris

Aim at heaven and you get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither. —C.S. Lewis
